Incoming Pediatric Resident: Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Elmhurst, NY


Dr Avanthika Chaithanya (MBBS) is an ECFMG certified physician and an incoming pediatric PGY1 resident at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (NYC Health and Hospitals: Elmhurst). She loves working with children! She has 5 months of US Clinical Experience in Pediatrics, 8 Months of US Research Experience and is currently working in a pediatric outpatient practice. She fell in love with Pediatrics ever since her first rotation at med school, and here she is now, aspiring to be a pediatrician, to cure little ones everywhere! She is passionate towards child and adolescent healthcare and health equity for all. She enjoys working in academic research, and has a 20+ pubmed indexed publications in the fields of Pediatrics and Primary Care Medicine. She is a member of the Editorial Boards and Review Panels for many international journals. Apart from being the co-founder of “The Otto Research Initiative for IMGs”, Dr Avanthika also founded the “KIMS Scientific Society”, in her alma mater Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences, Hubli, to encourage young medical students to step into the field of research. She is also the founder of “The Safe Space”, a free 24/7 anonymous support helpline for young kids and adolescents, to advocate for better mental health and well-being of children worldwide. In her spare time, she volunteers with various NGOs and organisations like Rotary International and Red Cross to help and serve underprivileged children. She conducts menstrual hygiene talks for young girls to spread menstrual awareness, and free health camps for children of all ages, to ensure accessible health care for all. She is also currently functioning as the Head of Operations for “Rama Rao Charitable Trust”, an NGO which helps with free housing and educational opportunities for underprivileged students in Bangalore, India.
